REDLANDS, Calif.  --  For the third consecutive year, Calvin has advanced to the national quarterfinals of the NCAA tournament on Friday night. Calvin advanced to the quarterfinals by winning a penalty-kick shootout 5-3 against Redlands. The game finished in a 1-1 double-overtime tie but Calvin converted all five of its penalty chances and sophomore goalkeeper Mirza Harambasic came up with a critical save on Redlands’ fourth penalty attempt.

Junior Nick Holtrop converted the game-winning penalty for the Knights to clinch the shootout win. Calvin will face Texas-Tyler which claimed a 2-1 overtime win against Randolph Friday night. Calvin and Texas-Tyler will meet Saturday night with the winner advancing to the national semifinals in San Antonio, Texas.

In its game with Redlands, Calvin scored just 24 seconds into the match as sophomore Zach Willis stole a pass by the Redlands defense and whipped in his team-leading 14th goal of the year. Redlands came back to tie the game on a penalty kick goal in the opening minute of the second half after a Calvin foul. Calvin is now 12-9-5 all-time in NCAA tournament play and has won five consecutive shootouts in NCAA tournament play.
