The NCAA Division I Men's Soccer Committee has selected the Birmingham-Hoover metropolitan area to serve as the host for the 2012 NCAA Division I Men's Soccer Championship.

The championship, taking place Dec. 7 and 9, 2012, will return to Regions Park for the second consecutive year and be hosted again by Alabama-Birmingham and the Alabama Sports Foundation.

"Strategically, the committee wanted to consider a site for multiple years in an effort to provide the host with the opportunity to grow and brand the event," said Al Albert, chair of the Division I Men's Soccer Committee and associate director of development at the College of William and Mary.

"The Birmingham-Hoover metropolitan area is a community that has embraced many collegiate and national events, and everyone involved has already put forward a great deal of effort and enthusiasm into the 2011 College Cup. We feel they are poised and ready to host the event for another year."

The 2011 NCAA Men's College Cup will be held Dec. 9 and 11 at Regions Park in Hoover, Ala., and marks the first time the state of Alabama will host the event.
