YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. – No. 14 Flagler scored four second-half goals and took advantage of being one-man up for nearly 60 minutes en route to a 5-1 win against No. 6 Young Harris in a Peach Belt Conference match Saturday afternoon at Wilson Soccer Field.
Flagler improved to 4-1-1 overall and 3-0-0 in the Peach Belt. Young Harris suffered its first defeat and fell to 6-1-0 overall and 2-1-0 in league play.
After Young Harris took an early 1-0 lead, Zach Shanahan converted a penalty kick in the 17th minute to tie the game.
Young Harris put constant pressure on the Flagler defense and keeper Camp Bissell early. Bissell recorded six saves in the first 20 minutes of the match. But a straight red card on Declan Traquair in the 33rd minute gave Flagler a man advantage for the rest of the game.
The score remained deadlocked at 1-all going into the half, but the Saints scored four times in the second half. Early in the 62nd minute, Marco Warren scored his first collegiate goal after he knocked in Joseph Toby’s shot that hit the post.
The Saints then scored two more goals within two minutes of each other to provide insurance. Jean Vega scored his first collegiate goal in the 68th minute and Marco Padilla found the back of the net in the 70th minute. Jonny Cosgrove tallied assists on both goals.
Toby added a late goal to cap the scoring.
Bissell tallied nine saves for the Saints. Wezly Barnard collected four saves for the Mountain Lions.
Young Harris out-shot Flagler 21-14 and held a 10-2 advantage in corner kicks.
