TAMPA, Fla. – Barry defeated Tampa 1-0 on Saturday ending a three-game skid whie picking up its second shutout of the season.
The Bucs (2-4) withstood a barrage of shots from the Spartans and were able to hold off the eighth-ranked team in the nation on their home turf.
Barry scored the only goal of the game when Kris Wilkinson found the back of the net following a rebound off a header to beat goalkeeper David Neipel.
Wilkinson’s first career goal as a Buccaneer came in the 21st minute and was enough offense, as the Bucs defense answered the call.
Buccaneer goalkeeper Fred Perez finished the match with seven saves, breaking his career high. He picked up his second career shutout.
Tampa (4-2-1) applied plenty of pressure throughout the match, outshooting the Bucs 31 to 12, including a 17 to nine advantage in the second half.
