Calvin holds on to early lead, hands No. 6 Olivet first loss of the season
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- No. 6 Olivet suffered its first loss of the season against Calvin 3-2 on Wednesday. The loss snaps the Comets' 11-game winning streak.

The Knights took a 1-0 lead with a goal at the 8:32 mark. Olivet quickly answered. On the restart, junior Fred Smyser took a shot that was saved by the goalkeeper and over the net, earning a corner kick. Off the corner, sophomore John Leutzinger knocked the ball to freshman Austin Dunn, who scored just 14 seconds after the Calvin goal. The score stayed 1-1 until 47 seconds left in the first half when the Knights pocketed the go-ahead goal.
Calvin took a 3-1 lead on a goal by Chris Nance in the 62nd minute. The Comets responded just one minute and 18 seconds later when freshman Cory Werner-Hoskins found the back of the net. Sophomore Esteban Russell earned the assist, which is his 11th of the season to break Olivet's single-season record. The previous record was 10 by Matt Wait during the 1998 campaign.
For the game, the Comets took 18 shots, placing six on goal. Dunn led the way with four shots, while freshman Michael Moscone and junior Fred Smyser each had three. Russell and sophomores Camden Iwasko and Jon Puente finished with two shots apiece. In goal, sophomore Alex Lang faced 25 shots and collected three saves.
