Scoppola lifts Rockhurst to overtime win against Notre Dame (Ohio)
KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Paolo Scoppola scored his seventh goal of the season with 2:49 remaining in overtime to give Rockhurst a 3-2 victory against Notre Dame (Ohio) in the second-round of the NCAA tournament Sunday at Bourke Field.
Rockhurst scored two goals in the final 12 minutes in regulation to force overtime. Ruben Perez scored on a header in the 79th minute and Sean Verbanic tied the score with a penalty kick in the 87th minute. All three of Rockhurst’s goals were scored after its leading scorer, Mark Magee, was issued a red card in the 51st minute.
Erik Beattie and Renan Trocolli scored Notre Dame’s goals 64 seconds apart at the end of the first half and beginning of the second half. The Falcons end the season with a 15-6-0 record.
Top-seeded Rockhurst (18-2-2) will face second-seeded Saginaw Valley State in Round 3.
