No. 6 Ohio Wesleyan, No. 8 Ohio Northern earn shutouts

WESTERVILLE, Ohio -- Senior forward Taylor Rieger and senior back Alex Stanton scored first-half goals to lift sixth-ranked Ohio Wesleyan against Otterbein in non-conference action on Tuesday.
The Battling Bishops took the lead in the 17th minute when senior midfielder Jon Stegner centered the ball from the end line to Rieger in the middle of the box, and Rieger finished the chance for a 1-0 Ohio Wesleyan advantage.
Ohio Wesleyan kept up the offensive pressure, getting shots from senior midfielder Paolo Bucci and sophomore midfielder Gunnar Bloecher, but Cardinal keeper Kyle Ripma was there for the save both times.
Stanton increased the margin to 2-0 when his 30-yard shot bounced past Ripma and into the Otterbein net. Bloecher and junior midfielder Colton Bloecher each had looks in the closing minutes of the first half, but Ripma kept the hosts in the game with a pair of saves.
Meanwhile, junior Colin Beemiller made two saves in each half to keep the Cardinals off the scoreboard. He denied a header from Otterbein's Conor Holland in the 71st minute, and saved a shot from Evan Fallon in the 80th minute to preserve the shutout.
Ohio Wesleyan outshot Otterbein, 29-9. Beemiller recorded four saves for the Bishops. Ripma finished with seven saves in the Otterbein goal.
No. 8 Ohio Northern 6, Wittenberg 0
ADA, Ohio -- Senior Jeremy Barnes had three assists and freshman David Janusz scored two goals to lead No. 8 Ohio Northern to a 6-0 victory against Wittenberg on Tuesday afternoon at the ONU Soccer Field.
The Polar Bears remain perfect at 4-0 on the season, while the Tigers fall to 2-4.
ONU got on the board early, when freshman Austin Horton passed to Barnes who then passed to sophomore Shintaroh Itoh, who dribbled around the goalie and scored his first goal of the season. Northern added another goal at the 25:40 mark, when Barnes dribbled through the defense and crossed a ball to freshman Matt Kinkopf, who beat the goalie to make it 2-0 in favor of the Polar Bears. Janusz made it a 3-0 ONU lead just before halftime, when he took a long pass from junior Daniel Colvin and dribbled down the right sideline and beat the keeper.
The Polar Bears continued scoring in the second half, when junior Chuck D'Imperio sent a free kick into the box that was headed into the goal by freshman Aaron Smith. Barnes sent a corner kick into the box at the 58:40 mark and senior Stephen Perkins blasted it into the net to make it 5-0. Janusz capped off the scoring in the 78th minute when he took a pass from D'Imperio and beat the goalie to the lower left.
Freshman Evan Bader (4-0) recorded his third consecutive shutout by making three saves at goalie. James Van Artsdalen (2-4) made eight stops in goal for Wittenberg.
Northern fired 31 shots, 15 of which were on goal, while Wittenberg took seven shots with three being on goal.
The Polar Bears also held a 14-3 advantage in corner kicks.
