“"WASHINGTON -- Sixth-ranked Georgetown (2-1-3) appeared in its fourth overtime game of the season, and it's second in a row, as the Blue & Gray played No. 9 UC Irvine (4-0-1) to a 1-1 double-overtime draw Sunday afternoon at Shaw Field. The tie capped a four-game homestand for the Hoyas.

"The first half we played really well, we managed a lot of possession and kept the ball extremely well but everything was just a little off," Georgetown head coach Brian Wiese said. "We had a lot of good combination play that just went a little wide or the timing was just off, but boy we had some chances that just didn't take."

In the 33rd minute, GU midfielder Christopher Lema directed a ball perfectly to midfielder Bakie Goodman, who then one-touched and found junior forward Brandon Allen at the top of the box. Allen took a left-footed shot sending it past keeper Michael Breslin to make it 1-0.

A Georgetown corner in the 73rd minute allowed UC Irvine to counter and find space in transition. With traffic by the right post, the ball bounced toward the goal and was hit by UC Irvine's Dennis Martinez to tie the game.

The Blue & Gray lost a one-goal lead for the second-consecutive game.

UC Irvine gained possession from the opening kick and looked dangerous, but the Hoyas also had their opportunities with three shots in the first overtime.

In the second overtime, the Anteaters had a look at the net but the Hoyas came back on the other end. The ball was served to an open Alex Muyl on the left side, a few feet from the net with the keeper beat. The pass caught under Muyl's foot, giving Breslin time to adjust to keep it a 1-1 tie.

The Hoyas outshot the Anteaters 18-12 and took nine corners to UC Irvine's seven.
