No. 1 LIU Post wins in second half; No. 2 Rollins wins big
No. 1 LIU Post 2, Molloy 1
BROOKVILLE, N.Y. -- Trailing 1-0 at halftime, junior forward Eivind Austboe scored two late second-half goals in a 10-minute stretch to lift top-ranked LIU Post past Molloy 2-1 in an East Coast Conference clash Wednesday Brookville, N.Y.
Molloy (4-7-2, 2-3-2 ECC) got on the board first, however, and took a 1-0 edge into the break. The tally, which occurred with 1:17 elapsed, occurred off the Lions' first shot of the contest.
LIU Post (13-0, 6-0 ECC) only managed just two attempts on goal in the first 45 minutes of play, but turned it around in the latter. Only 39 seconds in, senior midfielder Jonathan Watkin had a breakaway, but red-shirt junior goalie Justin Corke came out of his net to challenge, and knocked the shot aside.
The Pioneers, who outshot their opposition 5-1 in the opening 17:58 of the second half, would even things up at the 72:01 mark. Austboe found the back of the mesh on a one-on-one with Corke. Freshman forward Johann Kristjansson was credited with the assist, after sending a through ball to the top of the box for a streaking Austboe.
Just 10 minutes later, Austboe struck again, when he one-timed a Johannes Forgaard pass from the far right wing under Corke. The goal was Austboe's 18th of the season.
In net, senior keeper Marco Jorgensen made four saves for LIU Post, which owned a 21-8 advantage in shots, and a 7-2 edge in corner kicks. Corke had five stops.
