Junior forward Jason Johnson had a busy weekend helping Virginia Commonwealth to two big league wins, improving the Rams to a 6-1-3 overall record. On Friday, he was good for an assist and a goal to lead the squad to a 4-1 win against No. 13 Charlotte in their A-10 opener. Johnson also tallied a goal and an assist on Sunday as VCU dropped Washington 2-0.
Andy Huftalin, senior forward for No. 9 Marquette, came off the bench and scored a goal in each half to upset No. 2 Connecticut 3-2 on Saturday. The Golden Eagles improved to 11-0-0 on the season with the victory, stretching the nation’s longest win streak to 11 games. Huftalin leads the team with six goals on the season.
Notre Dame Athletics
Four goals in a pair of games turned out to be a great week of play for Notre Dame senior forward Ryan Finley. He netted two of the scores against Pittsburgh on Wednesday as the Irish earned a 7-1 win. Finley also deposited two goals in UND’s 3-0 defeat of No. 3 Georgetown on Saturday to help improve the squad to 10-2-0 for the season.
