WORCESTER, MA – The College of Saint Rose posted its fourth shutout throughout six games on the year and scored once in each half to upend host Assumption 2-0 in a Northeast-10 Conference encounter tonight. The Golden Knights (6-0-0/4-0-0 NE-10), the nation’s top-ranked team according to this week’s NSCAA/HendrickCars.com NCAA Division II poll, outshot the Greyhounds (1-4-1/1-3-0 NE-10) by a 23-5 margin, including a 15-1 differential in shots-on-goal.
Junior forward Gianna D’Errico designed the game-winner midway through the opening period and added an insurance marker early in the second half to lead Saint Rose, which has now outscored its opponents by a 27-2 margin on the year.
D’Errico sent a cross into the box that freshman midfielder Sydney Bond headed home for her team leading fifth tally of the season. D’Errico then found the back of the net after she knocked home a deflection that was triggered by junior midfielder Aoife Herbert at the 58:02 mark.
Senior keeper Deanna Esposito was called upon to make only one save for the Golden Knights, while her counterpart; senior Lauren Keating deflected away 13 on-target threats to keep Assumption within striking distance throughout the evening.
Looking ahead, Saint Rose returns home Tuesday for a 5:00 pm NE-10 match versus Adelphi University. The contest is scheduled as the inaugural event to be streamed via broadband on www.gogoldenknights.tv. Meanwhile, the Greyhounds are scheduled to visit Le Moyne Tuesday for a 4:00 pm league encounter in Syracuse.
