The No. 5 Grand Valley State women's soccer team advances to the NCAA Division II National Quarterfinals after defeating No. 15 Wis.-Parkside 3-0 on Friday afternoon (Nov. 19). Sophomore forward Alyssa Mira notched two goals for the Lakers to help advance GVSU's record to 19-1-2. Grand Valley State will now play No. 3 Fort Lewis on Sunday (Nov. 21) in Allendale, Mich. at 1:00 p.m.

GVSU got the scoreboard just 18 minutes into the match. Junior midfielder Erin Mruz took a shot from the right side of the field, which was punched by the Ranger's keeper. Mira then rebounded the blocked shot and headed the ball into an open net, giving the Lakers a 1-0 lead.

Mira added her second goal of the match at the 32:14 mark after she took a shot from 20 yards out, landing the ball in the bottom left corner of net. The Lakers went into halftime with a 2-0 lead.

During the second half of play sophomore forward Kayla Addison recorded her team high 19th goal of the year at the 61:09 mark. Addison shook up defenders and took a shot from inside the box, giving GVSU a 3-0 win.

The Lakers dominated offensively outshooting the Rangers by a 21-5 margin, including a 13-1 advantage in shots on goal. The Grand Valley State defense also dominated by collecting its 18th shutout and the Laker backline have not given up a goal at home this season. Goalkeeper Chelsea Parise recorded her 14th shutout this year and advances her record to 19-1-2.
