Stanford Head Coach Paul Ratcliffe

I give credit to Boston College, I think they stayed up and were trying to put pressure and trying to get forward and get a goal. The game went in a few waves where they dominated for a little bit, and Emily Oliver actually made a great save for us. Then after that I thought we started to come on stronger. It was just a matter of us being more aggressive up front and being more assertive in the final third.”

On the intensity of the match

I think tonight was a hard game. It was a tight match and people were playing like it was the last game of their lives. At times these games can be a little bit ugly, and we need to get better at playing like that sometimes to get the result at the end of the day, but you saw the great passing, a fluid movement and things occurring.”

On playing a national semifinal match

The team was a little bit tight for my liking, probably because of the big stage and they know so much is at stake, so we were a little bit tighter than I would like them to be. Boston College played very high and put us under pressure. If we could have gotten behind them a few times to stretch them, then things could have really opened up. The second goal, you saw that occur. Lindsey Taylor put their defender under pressure earlier instead of dropping so deep and we were able to get a second goal.”

On playing Notre Dame for the national championship

It should be an exciting game. Notre Dame is a quality team so it should be a great fight.”

Senior Forward Christen Press

On Boston Colleges Defense

I think [Boston College] did a good job of closing off the space behind, and when I was checking back to get the ball they were really tight on me, making it hard for me to playmake or do anything other than pass it back to my midfield. They were really organized defensively.”

Sophomore Defender Rachel Quon

On Camille Levins goal

I think she won a tackle in the middle and then took a girl on, beat her, and hit a shot 20 yards out, hit it perfectly in the upper 90.”

Camille Levin Junior Defense/Midfield

On her versatility

I grew up at the club level. I played all over the field as well. Its not anything new to me. Wherever Im needed on the field I know its whats best for the team so I dont mind at all.”

On her goal

I think their back line, they were really tight on you initially and then they would start to drop back, so they kept dropping and I just kind of cut one side and saw an open shot.”

Boston College Head Coach Alison Foley

I thought tonight was one of the best womens soccer games that Ive ever seen in my life. Two fantastic teams, two teams that like to attack, both extremely disciplined. I know Stanford has some really talented players that we needed to concentrate on, and I thought our back group did a great job with Christen Press. Amy Caldwell did a nice job keeping Rachel Quon at home.

On the number of scoring chances in the game

We had a couple chances certainly in terms of possession. We had our times where we were knocking the ball around and they did, too. We had a game plan and I thought our girls did an excellent job with their execution of that game plan. We pushed numbers forward at the end and we went for it. Thats really our mentality all year is to go for it and do the best we can, and I thought the girls did that tonight and certainly I thought Stanford did a great job. We wish them the best of luck on Sunday.”

On no shots in the first half

We did create some chances that didnt ultimately end on a shot on goal. We got in a couple times behind them and created the first corner kick, so certainly give credit to Stanford for their defending. Sometimes chances arent necessarily shots on goal. Theyre opportunities created on corner kicks, balls in behind the defense, so we created some different looks of a dangerous attack.”

Junior Goalkeeper Jillian Mastroianni

On playing in Cary, N.C.

Being here for the ACC tournament every year it was almost like a home-field advantage for us. Before we went out on the field, in the locker room, we talked about being here. We know this field, we know the lights, we know everything about the fans, where they would be, how theyre heard from the field. We knew wed be able to communicate. I thought it was a definite advantage for us.”

On Camille Levins goal

I think we kind of lost her in the midfield. I think we kind of got mismatched. Ive played with Camille before and shes a great player. She just got an extra step and she hit it well. I got fingertips to it, but it just wasnt enough.”

Kristen Mewis

On the offensive attack

I think that my team did a good job getting me the ball and I probably wouldve liked to get the ball a little more, but I guess my last pass just wasnt as good as it usually is. Stanfords defense was really good, so a lot of the balls I passed were a little bit too central, not enough diagonal with curve to it. I think that I probably wouldve given some better balls, but it was just that last pass, really.”

Hannah Cerone

On playing in the College Cup

I think it was a great experience. We cant be anything but proud of ourselves. We came in here and said our only regret was if we wouldve played scared and if we let them come at us. I think every single girl gave her best. Thats all we couldve done tonight. Unfortunately we didnt get the better of it.”
