KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — No. 15 UCLA pulled off an upset in the final day of play at the 2011 Lady Vol Classic on Sunday, registering a 2-0 victory against eighth-ranked Florida at Tennessee’s Regal Soccer Stadium.

UCLA’s Sydney Leroux was named tournament MVP. She was joined on the all-tournament team by freshmen Samantha Mewis, Ally Courtnall and Abby Dahlkemper.

Courtnall scored the only goal of the first half on Sunday, taking a through ball from fellow freshman Kylie McCarthy before finishing from about 15 yards out in the 35th minute. It was Courtnall’s first collegiate goal.

Leroux, who has now scored in all three wins this season, added an insurance goal for the Bruins in the 72nd minute after freshman Sarah Killion intercepted a poor defensive clearance by the Gators. Killion fed Leroux, who finished from close range to give UCLA a 2-0 lead.

UCLA out-shot Florida 19-15 on the day. Freshman goalkeeper Katelyn Rowland picked up her second win of the weekend, to improve to 2-0 on the season.
