SAN DIEGO, Calif. — San Diego State’s Tiffany Hurst scored the game’s only goal in the 25th minute as the Aztecs topped fourth-ranked Portland 1-0 on Sunday afternoon at the SDSU Sports Deck.
After 24 minutes of scoreless soccer, Hurst took advantage of a rebound from a shot by teammate Haley Locker, who had her attempt blocked. After a scramble in front of the net, Hurst easily finished from three yards out, with the assist going to Locker.
The Pilots now sit at 2-1-0 on the young season, while San Diego State improves to 3-1-0.

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — No. 21 Duke scored three second-half goals in less than 12 minutes to claim a 3-1 victory against No. 1 Notre Dame on Sunday during the final round of the Carolina Classic at Fetzer Field in Chapel Hill, N.C.
The Blue Devils’ second-half rally resulted in a rare second consecutive loss for Notre Dame.

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — No. 3 North Carolina had six different players score their first goals of the 2011 season Sunday afternoon as the Tar Heels’ offense exploded for a 6-1 victory against Houston in the final game of the Carolina Nike Classic.
Sophomore Kelly McFarlane and freshman Brooke Elby scored their first career goals and Kealia Ohai, Rachel Wood, Megan Brigman and Emmalie Pfankuch also tallied for the Heels in front of a crowd of 1,211 at Fetzer Field.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Ninth-ranked Florida State (3-1-0) pushed its home unbeaten streak to 12 games thanks to a 5-0 victory against North Florida (1-2-1) on a hot and sunny Sunday afternoon at the Seminole Soccer Complex.
Five different Seminoles found the back of the net as Florida State exploded for five goals to remain perfect against the Ospreys in three all-time meetings. The Garnet and Gold needed just 52 minutes on Sunday to equal their goal output through the first three games of the season, while it marked the highest scoring game for the Seminoles since a 4-1 victory over NC State back on Oct. 17, 2010.
No. 7 Ohio State 2, Wright State 1
COLUMBUS, Ohio — Seventh-ranked Ohio State defeated visiting Wright State 2-1 at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium Sunday evening.
After a scoreless first half, where the Buckeyes outshot the Raiders 12-0, Ohio State got on the board in the 56th minute on a penalty kick by sophomore Danica Wu, her first goal of the season. The Buckeyes scored again in the 80th minute on a header by freshman Chelsy Swackhamer in the box off an assist by Kiiri Kuld. It was Swackhamer’s first collegiate goal.
Wright State scored its lone goal in the 81st minute, an unassisted shot by Adrianna Guerrero off the right wing. Ohio State led in shots for the evening 22-12, and held a 6-4 advantage in corner kicks.

Knoxville, Tenn. – No. 15 UCLA pulled off the upset in the final day of play at the 2011 Lady Vol Classic on Sunday, registering a 2-0 victory against eighth-ranked Florida at Tennessee’s Regal Soccer Stadium.
The only goal of the opening half came in the 35th minute when Kylie McCarthy, from about 10 yards above the box, sent a through ball into the box. Ally Courtnall caught up with the ball and placed in her first goal of the season to the far post corner from 14 yards.
UCLA’s second goal came when Sarah Killion intercepted a Gator clearance attempt. The ball she sent forward found the foot of All-American Sydney Leroux. She tucked it in the short shot at the near post corner at 71:30
