CLINTON, N.Y. -- Hamilton College's Jamie Fried '07 scored in the first half to lift the Continentals to a 1-0 win against Stevens Institute of Technology in an NCAA Tournament second round women's soccer game at Love Field on Nov. 13.

Nationally ranked Hamilton (15-1-1 overall) advances to a sectional semifinal against defending national champion SUNY Oneonta, who defeated Ithaca College 1-0 in overtime. Dates, times and location are to be determined on Sunday. Stevens Tech ended its season with a record of 18-2-2.

Fried scored her second goal of the year in the 13th minute. Kim Bauer '08 served a pass into the goalie box from the right side and the Ducks' keeper, along with players from both teams, converged on the ball. Somehow the ball squirted free to a wide open Fried, who had sprinted into the box from the left side. She hammered the ball into an open net from about five yards out.

Nicole Tetreault '08 tried to give the Continentals some breathing room late in the second half when she received a pass near midfield and accelerated past the defense for a breakaway opportunity. Tetreault broke in alone on the keeper, but her shot dribbled just wide of the goal to the left.

Hamilton recorded its 11th shutout in 17 games. Caitlin McGilley '08 earned her fourth shutout by making six saves. Stevens Tech gave up its first goal in seven games. Erica Midttveit '07 also stopped six shots. Hamilton held a slim 12-11 advantage in shots.

The No. 8 Continentals are appearing in the NCAA Tournament for the first time in the program's 24-year history. Hamilton earned an automatic bid to the tournament by winning its first Liberty League Tournament title. The Ducks defeated the University of Scranton in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on penalty kicks after winning their fifth straight Skyline Conference Tournament championship.
