Lynchburg 1, Emory 0 (OT)



LYNCHBURG, Va. -- Sophomore forward Catherine Adams (Lynchburg, VA/E.C. Glass) found the back of the net with two minutes left in overtime to give the Lynchburg College womens soccer team a 1-0 win over Emory University (GA) Saturday in a second-round NCAA Tournament game. Lynchburg advances to the round of 16 next weekend with the opponent, site and time to be determined.

The game was scoreless for the first 90 minutes of regulation and 8:01 of overtime until sophomore Siobhan Budine (Fayetteville, NC/Sherburne-Earlville) lofted a long pass over the Emory defense. Adams beat the Eagle keeper to the ball and fired an eight-yard shot into the bottom right corner of the net.

Senior keeper Erin Johnson (Davidsonville, MD/South River) made five saves to record her 13th shutout of the season, while her Emory counterpart Adrienne DeMarais made seven stops. Lynchburg (21-1-1) held an 11-8 edge in shots and a 5-2 in corner kicks. Emory ends its 2004 season at 13-7.

The Hornets advance to the NCAA Tournament Round of 16 for the second time in program history. LC will face the winner of this evenings second-round contest between Christopher Newport University and Frostburg State University in Newport News, VA. The NCAA will determine the host sites for next weekends tournament games Sunday evening.
