Adelphi 5, Southampton 1



SOUTHAMPTON, NY -- The #2 Adelphi University Lady Panthers defeated the #1 Southampton College Lady Colonials 5-1 to win the NCAA Division II Womens Soccer Northeast Regional and advance to next weekends match-up against the New England Regional Champion.

Adelphi opened up the scoring in the 43rd minute when senior Josephine Coiro (West Babylon, NY) scored unassisted off a corner to give Adelphi a 1-0 lead at halftime. Adelphi broke the game wide open just seven minutes into the second half. Sophomore Lea Brady (Holbrook, NY) was set up by Coiro at 58:13 to give the Lady Panthers a two goal cushion. Adelphi didnt take long to add another goal when freshman Denise Auer (Holbrook, NY) scored just :29 seconds later. Auer then assisted sophomore Tara Grodotzke (Rocky Point, NY) at 59:14 and sophomore Lauren Bowman (Cheshire, CT) at 65:47 to finish the scoring for Adelphi. Southamptons lone goal was scored by sophomore Caroline Svensson (Skarplinge, Sweden) in the games 80th minute.

Adelphis freshman goalie Christine Conway (Rockville Centre, NY) collected seven saves on the afternoon while Southamptons Corinne Morgan (Groton, NY) had four saves in the losing effort. Adelphi improves to 19-3 while Southampton falls to 17-2-3 and closes out its most successful season and the final season of womens soccer at Southampton College.
