Puget Sound 2, Hardin-Simmons 0

TACOMA, Wash. -- Cortney Kjar's twenty-first goal of the year propelled Puget Sound to a 2-0 victory over Hardin-Simmons University today on East Athletic Field in NCAA Division III women's soccer Sectional round action. With the win the Loggers (20-1) advance to their third consecutive Sectional Final to be played tomorrow at 1:00 p.m. Hardin-Simmons ends the year at 19-2-1.

As she has been all season, Kjar was again a difference maker for Puget Sound. Beating a Cowgirls defender going from right to left across the top of the penalty box, Kjar unleashed a wonderfully struck left-foot shot. With little reaction out of Hardin-Simmons goalkeeper Rachel Goold the ball curled into the upper left corner to give the Loggers a 1-0 lead 62 minutes into the game.

Kjar would get in again with just over eight minutes remaining in the match to assist on the Logger's second goal, taking a shot that was deflected down inside the six-yard box. Streaking in from her wide midfield position sophomore Lea John slotted home the insurance goal for Puget Sound.

Shots favored Puget Sound 21-5, as did corners 8-4. Goold made six saves in the loss, while the Loggers' Erin Williams had two saves in the win.

Puget Sound will learn their opponent for tomorrow's game this evening at the conclusion of the Macalester College-Washington University game.
