Puget Sound 0, Macalester 0 (2OT) (Puget Sound Advances on Penalty Kicks, 8-7)

CHICAGO -- Following a scoreless tie after two overtime periods, the University of Puget Sound edged Macalester College 8-7 in the penalty kick shootout in the second of two NCAA Division III Women's Soccer Championship sectional semifinal matches Friday at Chicago's Stagg Field.

The teams combined for 39 shots in regulation and overtime, 26 by Puget Sound (18-1-2) and 13 by Macalester (20-0-2). Macalester netminder Louisa Bigelow made 15 saves, while her counterpart Erin Williams stopped five shots for the Loggers.

Seven of the first eight shooters for each team were successful in the shootout. In the ninth round, Macalester's Jenny Singleton fired a shot off the left post. Puget Sound's Fiona Gornick then converted her attempt to give the Loggers the 8-7 edge.

Puget Sound will face Chicago (17-2-2) in the sectional championship Saturday at 1:00 p.m. The Maroons defeated defending national champion Wheaton (Ill.) College 2-1 in Friday's first contest. The winner of Saturday's match advances to the national semifinals to be held in Greensboro, North Carolina, on Nov. 25-26.
