Nov. 20, 2008 – The Truman women’s soccer team defeated Texas A&M Commerce 2-1 on Thursday in the South Central regional finals of the NCAA Division II Soccer Tournament.  The Bulldogs will face Seattle-Pacific (Wash.) in the Elite Eight at 1:00 p.m. (CST) in Kirksville, Mo.

Riley Mahn put Truman on the scoreboard first with an unassisted goal at the 15.21 mark of the game, Katelyn Talcott followed Mahn by converting on a pentaly kick in the 39th minute of action.

The Lions used the second half wind and got a goal by Melissa DoRemus in the 47th minute but could not muster any more scoring changes on the strong Bulldog defense.

Jayne Grisham stopped three shots, all in the second half, to give the Bulldogs their first Elite Eight appearance since the 2001 season.  It will be the third national quarterfinal appearance in school history.

Texas A&M Commerce ends their season with a record of 15-4-3.

Truman is now 17-3-2 and will face the Falcons of Seattle-Pacific, who are the Far West Champions after defeated Western Washington 1-0 in double overtime.

The Falcons (19-1-2) got a goal from Meredith Teague with just under four minutes left in double-overtime to advance in the tournament 1-0.  SPU had 24 shots during the game with eight on net.

Western Washington finishes their 2008 season with a record of 16-3-2.
