GRAND RAPIDS, MI - The Calvin women's soccer team has advanced to the Round of 16 of the NCAA III Tournament by way of a 1-0 second round victory over Wittenberg Saturday afternoon at Calvin's Zuidema Field.

Calvin will be making its second appearance in the Round of 16 as the Knights advanced to the national quarterfinals in 2006.

Senior midfielder Emily Ottenhoff provided the only goal of the game Saturday, heading in a corner kick from junior Lauren Heyboer into a wide-open Wittenberg net. Heyboer's serve floated over the outstretched arms of Wittenberg goalkeeper Melissa Gartner allowing Ottenhoff a clean shot at the net. The goal was the seventh of the year for Ottenhoff and the fourth of the tournament for Calvin off a corner kick. In a 4-0 win over Washington and Jefferson (PA) on Friday, Calvin scored three goals off of corner kicks.

Calvin (15-4-1) held possession for much of the first half and continued to create quality chances early in the second half. Wittenberg (12-5-5) began to turn the tide in the final 25 minutes however as the Tigers began to press for the tying goal. Calvin goalkeeper Kayla Sulzer was forced to make two crucial saves in the second half including a stop off a Wittenberg shot by Allie Keefer inside the Calvin box with just under a minute to play.

Calvin finished the game with an 8-6 shots at goal advantage including a 4-1 edge on corner kicks. Sulzer and Gartner both had three saves in goal for their respective teams.
