Samson's OT Goal Sends Ill. Wesleyan To Second Round With 1-0 Win Over Carroll

ST. LOUIS, Mo. - An overtime goal by Tori Samson off a missed free kick by Lauren Knaack gave Illinois Wesleyan a 1-0 win over Carroll in the first round of the NCAA Division III women's soccer tournament in St. Louis on Nov. 14.
The Titans (16-3-3) face Washington U. at 1 p.m. on Nov. 15. The Bears (15-3-1) advanced with a 2-1 overtime decision against Webster. IWU defeated Washington U., 1-0, on Sept. 1 in the season opener for both teams and the only home field loss for the Bears in 2009.
Samson headed the ball into the net after Knaack missed her shot at the 99:00 mark of the first overtime.
The Titans earned their first-ever NCAA Division III tournament win after losing one game in 2005 and tying twice last season, IWU outshot the Pioneers, 27-5, including a 6-1 advantage in the extra session.
Carroll's Ashlee Reinke made 13 saves and junior Alli Novak made three saves in recording her third straight NCAA shutout.
The Pioneers' season ends at 17-3-1.
