ATLANTA, GA -
The Lynchburg College women's soccer team jumped out to an early one goal lead and never relinquished it as LC defeated Transylvania University by a score of 1-0 on Saturday afternoon in the first round of the Division III NCAA Tournament on the campus of Emory University.

Katie Santos netted a breakaway shot at the 11:34 mark off a lead pass from senior Betsy Kwiatkowski (Mount Jackson, VA/Stonewall Jackson). The game remained scoreless for the rest of the game but featured scoring chances for each side.

Hornet senior goalkeeper Jackie Bader (Fort Washington, MD/Bishop Ireton) made two saves on the day, keeping the Pioneers from reaching the back of the net. Pioneer goaltender Kara Hansel made five saves during the game. Lynchburg recorded 16 shots, while Transylvania was held to three. The Hornets also dominated the corner kick category, 10-2.

Lynchburg will now face host Emory University at 1 p.m. on Sunday afternoon. Emory defeated Maryville College earlier on Saturday by a score of 2-0.
