ABILENE, Texas - Hardin-Simmons women's soccer advanced to the second round of play after beating Principia College 3-0 in NCAA first round action held Saturday in Abilene.

The Cowgirls got on the board in the 17th minute after Katie Kuykendall split two Principia defenders to find the goal. Megan Ryan followed with a goal assisted by Katie Kuykendall in the 25th minute with a shot just outside of the box that deflected off of the keeper. Amy Kuykendall scored the third and final goal of the game in the 76th minute after she had a break away run up the left side. She was assisted by Courtney Cramer.

The Cowgirls outshot Principia 22 to seven and junior goal keeper Rebecca Roth had five saves in the game.

Principia goal keeper Mel Stein recorded six saves in the loss.

In the second game of the day, Trinity University defeated the University of Puget Sound (Wash.) 2-0 to advance to the second round of the NCAA tournament.

The game was evenly matched through the first half with the first point of the game coming in the second half. Danika Wright connected off of a corner kick by Jordan Azar to put Trinity on the board at the 60th minute. Trinity would follow up with the final goal of the game in the 69th minute with a shot from Abigail Loar assisted by Azar.

Katie Garrett got the win in goal for Trinity with five saves and Casey Thayer recorded four saves for Puget Sound in the loss.

Hardin-Simmons and Trinity will square off in the second round game Sunday afternoon.
