GENEVA, N.Y.—
Sophomore Whitney Frary scored two goals to lead the No. 9 Herons to a 3-1 win over the University of Scranton in an NCAA Tournament second round game played at Cozzens Field this afternoon. William Smith improves to 16-2-3 this season, and the Royals end their season with a 16-5-1 mark.

The Herons opened up the scoring right away with two goals in the first 3 minutes, 3 seconds to take a 2-0 lead. Frary started it off with her first goal of the day 2:42 in. Senior BreLynn Nasypany sent a pass from the left side of the field to find Frary in the middle, who fired a shot just over the head of Scranton senior goalie Caitlin Byrne. Just 21 seconds later, junior Chelsea England found the back of the net after taking a pass from sophomore Kelsey Hill. It was Englands third goal of the season.

At the 52 minute mark, Frary and Nasypany teamed up for the second time. Nasypany sent a short pass inside the box from the left side to find Frary who scored her eighth goal of the season. Frary also scored two goals in the Herons first round game against Keuka. Nasypany has now tallied 46 points this season which sets a new William Smith record. She ranks third on the William Smith career list with 31 assists and second on the points list with 135 career points.

The Royals had a couple scoring chances in the second half and broke through in the 72nd minute. First-year Samantha Russo sent a pass from the right side to junior Christina Cognetti, who placed a shot into the left side of the goal just out of reach of Heron junior goalie Amanda Davis.

The Herons enjoyed a 14-10 advantage in shots. William Smith took seven corner kicks, and Scranton did not take any. Davis finished with five saves, and Byrne recorded six stops for the Royals.

The Herons advance to the round of 16 where they will face Oneonta. The regional hosts will be announced later today on NCAA.com.
