Roundup: Wong's late goal keeps No. 5 UCSD perfect
CALIFORNIA, Pa. -- In a meeting of two NCAA Tournament teams from last season, the No. 4 Vulcans claimed a 1-0 win on Friday afternoon against Slippery Rock in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference play at the new Soccer Facility.
With the victory, the California University of Pennsylvania women's soccer team improves to 3-0-0 overall and 1-0-0 in league play. The Vulcans, who have registered shutouts in all three games this year, also extended their unbeaten streak against Slippery Rock to five games. Meanwhile, Slippery Rock drops to 2-1-1 this year with a 0-1-1 mark in conference action.
After a scoreless first period despite 18 combined shot attempts, the Vulcans took a 1-0 lead in the 83rd minute when Breeanna Robinson scored her fourth goal of the season off an assist from Chelsea Norbuts.
No. 3 Fort Lewis 5, Colo. State-Pueblo 0
DURANGO, Colo. – In its Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference opener, Fort Lewis (4-0-1, 1-0-0) showed why it is the third-ranked team in the nation just three minutes into the game with a goal by Jane Barden off a rebound en route to a shut out against Colorado State-Pueblo.
In the 39-minute mark, the Skyhawks struck again, this time with a goal by Taylor Tegtmeyer. The scoring didn't cease in the first half as Julia Thompson netted her first of two goals on the day.
A minute into the second half, Emma Cannis put away a pass from Hayley Hollenga for a 4-0 lead. With the game nearing the end Thompson scored her second goal off a pass from Sam Weiss.
No. 5 UC-San Diego 2, San Francisco State 1
SAN FRANCISCO -- Shelby Wong scored a goal in the 93rd minute as No. 5 UC-San Diego rallied to win 2-1 against San Francisco State in California Collegiate Athletic Association play on Friday afternoon at Kellogg Field.
UCSD improves to 3-0-2 overall and 2-0-1 in CCAA play. The loss marks the first on the season for SFSU, who drops to 3-1-1 overall and 1-1-1 in conference competition.
