No. 4 California (Pa.) wins easily
Vulcans outshot Senators 29-4, 19-1 on goal in 8-0 victory
CALIFORNIA, Pa. -- Seven different players scored goals on Wednesday afternoon, as No. 4 California (Pa.) recorded an 8-0 win against Davis & Elkins in non-conference play.
With the victory, California improved to 10-0-2 overall and 7-0-0 at home. In their last two meetings, the Vulcans have out-scored the Senators 15-0.
Davis & Elkins dropped to 4-6-1 this season.
The Vulcans took a 1-0 lead in the fifth minute when senior Breeanna Robinson scored her 10th goal of the season off assists from junior Carley Work and senior Sara Di Benedetto. Senior Chaning Wimer tallied her first goal of the year at the 20:41-mark off a feed from Di Benedetto to expand the lead to 2-0.
Sophomore Kelsey Russo, freshman Megan Politowski and senior Kristen Orrett each added goals within a span of five-plus minutes to help California take a 5-0 lead at halftime.
In the second half, Work scored her team-leading 14th goal of the year (unassisted) in the 57th minute. Freshman Chelsea Crockett recorded a pair of goals off assists from senior Jodi McDonald in the final 10 minutes of the game.
Senior Paula Jackson and redshirt sophomore Ashley Magruda combined for the shutout. Senators' Ashley Winkelspecht finished with 11 saves.
California outshot Davis & Elkins 29-4 -- including a 19-1 advantage in shots on goal -- and finished with a 12-1 edge on corner kicks.
