PITTSFORD, N.Y. — No. 2 William Smith snapped Nazareth’s nine-match unbeaten streak Wednesday, as the Herons defeated the Golden Flyers 1-0 in a non-conference match. William Smith (14-0-1) earned its 11th consecutive win and its 14th shutout this season.
Wednesday’s goal by first-year Dineo Mmutla was the first Nazareth (8-3-4) has allowed since a 1-1 tie with Stevens back on Sept. 24. The Golden Flyers were 7-0-2 in their previous nine games.
Senior goalie Amanda Davis stopped the two shots that she faced to log her 11th shutout this year. The Herons dominated offensively out-shooting the Golden Flyers 20-4. William Smith also held a 3-0 advantage in corner kicks.
No. 4 Johns Hopkins 8, McDaniel 0
WESTMINSTER, Md. — No. 4 Johns Hopkins tied its highest goal total of the season as the Blue Jays downed Centennial Conference opponent McDaniel 8-0 Wednesday afternoon behind sophomore Pamela Vranis’ first career hat trick.
With the win, the Blue Jays improved to 16-0 on the season and 9-0 in the Centennial while the Green Terror fell to 2-13 overall and 1-8 in the CC.
Senior Kristen Redsun and junior Meredith Maguire split time in the net for the Blue Jays with Redsun getting the win and making the Blue Jays lone save in the Hopkins’ 12th shutout of the season. Jan Woolly took the loss for the Green Terror making seven saves and allowing three goals while Kristen Cochran finished the game in goal allowing five goals and making three saves.
