SHERMAN, Texas — No. 3 Trinity (Texas) scored two second-half goals and shutout Austin 2-0 in a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference game on Friday.
Trinity, the defending conference champion, stayed undefeated at 17-0-0 and 7-0-0 SCAC. Austin now stands at 6-8-1 and 2-3-1 SCAC.
In the 61st minute of play, Hannah Kuhl recorded her first game-winner of the season, and was assisted by Mariah Risk. Abby Loar made it 2-0 Trinity by scoring in the 74th minute, with the assist from Katy Lipscomb. Loar now has 17 goals this season, and along with 10 assists, has chalked up 44 points for second-best total on the team.
The Tigers led the Kangaroos 36-3 in total shots, and were 14-1 on goal.
No. 5 Emory 3, Brandeis 0
ATLANTA, Ga. — No. 5 Emory scored the only goal it would need just 35 seconds into the contest on as it defeated visiting Brandeis 3-0. Brandeis falls to 6-9-2 on the season, 0-4-1 in the UAA while the Eagles remain unbeaten at 13-0-2, 4-0-1 in the conference.
Shortly after the opening kick, Emory established the lead. The Eagles’ Claire Mullins was the beneficary of nice passing from teammates Merrill Bachouras and Caroline Coates. Mullins’ score in the game’s first minute was her fifth of the season.
Emory carried the lead into the intermission, but broke it open with two goals in the second half. Coates assisted Lidija Baraiskas in the 57th minute, while Bachouras’s sister Lee had the helper on Mullins’ second goal of the game.
Brandeis got 10 saves overall, four from each of their two netminders. Junior Francine Kofinas allowed one goal in the first half, while freshman Michelle Savuto gave up two in the second. The Judges also had a pair of saves as defenders cleared the ball off the line. Sophomore Mary Shimko led Brandeis with three shots overall and one on goal.
