WHEATON, Ill. -- Wheaton (Ill.) was a 3-0 winner against Capital on Saturday night in a second round contest of the NCAA Division III tournament.

Wheaton senior Katelyn Kishkunas took a free kick at the 39:40 mark of the match and it went to Sarah Guidera on the left side of the net and Guidera blasted it into the net to give Wheaton a 1-0 advantage. The Thunder remained in the lead for the rest of the first half.

Early in the second half Wheaton senior Jaime Orewiler slashed through three Capital defenders to put ball into the net for a 2-0 Wheaton lead at the 52:40 mark of the match. Freshman Marlee Disher advanced the Thunder lead to 3-0 at the 86:10 mark of the match when she received a Keri Shannon assist and put the ball into net from 14 yards out.

Wheaton head coach Pete Felske noted, “I thought we came out with a lot of good energy tonight and moved the ball well and played well. We wanted to put pressure on early and I was glad we scored early, I thought that was to our advantage to get ahead of them early.”

Wheaton out-shot the Crusaders 28-4 in the match, with a 4-3 edge for the Thunder in corner kicks. Wheaton freshman Kelsey Graham played 62 minutes in the Thunder net, making one save and Hilary Barreto played 28 minutes, with one save. Capital netminder Maggie Donnellan was impressive in the Crusaders’ net with 10 saves and three goals allowed in 89 minutes of action.

Capital ends the year with a 14-7-2 record. Wheaton is now 20-1-2 and advances to the NCAA Sectional next weekend the Thunder will face UW-Whitewater in a Sectional Semifinal on Friday at a site and time that will be announced by the NCAA on Monday. UW-Whitewater tied Wartburg 1-1 in a second round contest on Saturday, however the Warhawks advanced thanks to a 6-5 edge in a shootout.
