SAN DIEGO, Calif. – Junior forward Emily Dillon’s second goal of the season lifted San Diego’s team (1-2-0) to a thrilling 1-0 upset against No. 12 Texas A&M (1-1-0) in a non-conference match Wednesday evening at Torero Stadium.
The Toreros scored the game-winning goal in the 79th minute when Dillon controlled a through pass from sr. defender Lexi Deol, and struck the ball into the top left corner of the net after beating the Aggie keeper one-on-one.
The Aggies best opportunity came in the 71st minute when San Diego native Allie Bailey launched a rocket into the crowded goal box. The Torero defense was able to knock the ball off target, keeping the game scoreless for the time being.
Fr. goalkeeper McKenna Tollack notched her first career shutout as she recorded two saves. Her counterpart, Jordan Day, was saddled with the loss in goal for the Aggies as she allowed one goal and recorded no saves.
The Aggies outshot the Toreros 10-2, but Tollack and the Toreros back line stood strong despite numerous Aggie shot attempts in the final ten minutes of the match. Texas A&M out cornered the Toreros 5-4, with four of the corners coming in the second frame.
