Truesdale's pair of goals send Loras into third round of NCAA tournament
Loras moves in the round of 16 for the third time in program history (2010, 2003) after posting four goals in the Rock Bowl on Saturday night. The host Duhawks defeated Calvin 4-2 with a pair of goals in each half.
The game was off to a high-scoring and fast-paced start when after 18 minutes the Duhawks led 2-1.
Katie Truesdale opened the scoring just after the 11 minute mark. She scored Loras' only goal in the 2-0 win (the other was an own goal) on Friday against St. Scholastica. Calvin answered with a long distance Kelly Koets strike just under five minutes later. Shortly after that, Loras' Ailish Rispin drew a foul outside the 18 yard box. Senior Hillary Wilson stepped up and hammered home the game's third goal to make it 2-1.
That's where it would stay for the remainder of the first half. The teams each took seven first-half shots.
Just 90 seconds into the second half, Truesdale struck again to extend the Duhawks' lead. Jackie Tumberger made it 4-1 just shy of the hour mark and put Loras in the driver's seat to move on the next round.
The Calvin Knights fought until the end and Paige Capel added her second goal at the Rock Bowl in the 81st minute, but goalkeeper Hannah Wilson and the rest of the Duhawk defense would keep the score there. Loras will play Emory in the next round.
Calvin's season closes at 16-5-1. Loras improved to 19-4 with the win.
