AUSTIN, Texas – Metro State scored two second-half goals to rally from a 1-0 halftime deficit to upset St. Edward’s 2-1 in Austin, Texas on Sunday. Metro State advances to the NCAA tournament third round. No. 3-seeded Metro State will host No. 4-seeded Colorado Mines on Friday at Auraria Field.

Second-seeded St. Edward’s fell to 18-3-0 on the season, while MSU improved to 15-5-2. It was the first time since 2009 that the Roadrunners won a game when trailing at halftime.

Mikayla Engel put the host Hilltoppers ahead 1-0 at 37:03, scoring a header off Valencia Mobley’s corner kick for St. Edward’s only goal.

After a relatively even first half, it was all Metro State in the second half as the Roadrunners controlled the pace of play and possession. They outshot St. Edward 5-2 in the second half and had all six of their corner kicks in the second half, while allowing just one. Two of those corners led to goals.

Karisa Price tied the game less than five minutes into the second half, heading in Abby Rolph’s corner from the far post.

The game remained tied until Nicole Pollack got her head on Rolph’s corner kick at 81:52 from the center of the box, pushing it past the goalkeeper for the game-winner.

Jordan Simkins made one save in the game to earn the win.

The two assists gave Rolph her first career multi-assist game.
