PENSACOLA, Fla. -- For the third time in the past five seasons, West Florida advanced to the NCAA Division II Championships. UWF avenged an Oct. 8 loss to Armstrong with a 1-0 win on Sunday in an NCAA quarterfinals match at the UWF Soccer Complex.

Sashana Campbell scored her third goal in the past four games and the Argonaut defense did the rest, recording its 13th shutout of the season.

The Argos (22-1-0) defeated the Pirates (19-2-2) to win 22 games for the second time in four seasons and improve their winning percentage to .956, currently the second-best at UWF.

Campbell got UWF on the board after driving the ball into the center of the box and shooting past the Pirates’ keeper for the lone score of the game at the 17:01 mark.

UWF was outshot for the second consecutive game. The Pirates bettered the Argos 10-7 in shots.

Sarah Story improved her shutout count this season while making just two saves, but Story made a handful of key plays in the box while directing the Argo defense to limit the Pirates to just two shots on goal.

Tori Fish, Monica Malavassi and Rachel Cutts will return to the semifinals after playing on the last Argo team to make a semifinal appearance in 2009. UWF failed to advance to the finals against CS-Dominguez Hills on penalty kicks 4-1 that season.

UWF coach Joe Bartlinski improved to 12-7-3 in the NCAA postseason in 12 seasons at UWF, 10-1-2 in the past five seasons and 3-0 in NCAA quarterfinals matches. UWF is 1-0-1 in NCAA semifinals matches.

The Argos will play defending national champion No. 20 Saint Rose (20-2-2) at Blanchard Woods Park on Nov. 29.

Saint Rose defeated West Chester (15-4-1) 4-1 in the quarterfinals.
