PUTTING ON A SHOW: West Texas A&M’s Kimberly LeComte was practically perfect at the plate as she sparked the Lady Buffs to a three-game sweep of Abilene Christian as they secured the top seed of the South Division in the upcoming Lone Star Conference Tournament.
The sophomore from Boerne, Texas, went 10-for-11 with seven runs scored, 12 RBI, four doubles and three home runs, including a grand slam, in the series against ACU. She batted .909 with a 2.364 slugging percentage and boosted her home run total to 20, which leads Division II. LeComte was selected Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division II National Player of the Week for her outstanding play.
The No. 11 Lady Buffs won the LSC South Division title for the first time in program, and will enter the league tournament on a seven-game winning streak. West Texas A&M will face East Central in the first game of the LSC Tournament on Thursday, May 6.
THE WARRIOR WAY: No. 7 Wayne State (Mich.) finished the regular season with a school-record 47 wins as the Warriors posted doubleheader sweeps over Northwood and Lake Superior State University as they clinched the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference regular season title behind the stellar pitching of senior left-hander Casey Hanes.
The native of Richmond, Va., notched two wins and a save last weekend, beginning with a one-hit shutout at Northwood as she became the school’s single-season record holder in strikeouts. Hanes then tossed a five-inning, three-hit shutout at LSSU, fanning 11 batters in the contest. She was named GLIAC Pitcher of the Week for her performance. Hanes leads the nation with a 0.56 ERA, ranks second in victories (37) and is fourth in strikeouts (314).
The Warriors will face Hillsdale College in the first round of the GLIAC Tournament on May 7-9 in Midland, Mich.
GETTING ‘HOUNDED: The University of Indianapolis earned the No. 1 seed in the Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament for the first time in school history after concluding the regular season with a series sweep of Quincy last weekend to take over first place in the league standings.
Senior pitcher Megan Russell struck out 17 batters and allowed just two earned runs in 14.0 innings pitched against the Lady Hawks as she posted a pair of wins to improve to 19-7 on the year with a 1.91 ERA. The native of Indianapolis, Ind., was named GLVC Pitcher of the Week for her efforts. She has fanned a school record 212 batters in 161.1 innings pitched.
Junior second baseman Jamie Keltz of Avon, Ind., picked up the league’s Player of the Week award after going 3-for-5 with three RBI, a double and a home run in the series against Quincy. She paces the Greyhounds with a .340 batting average.
UIndy will face Southern Indiana in the first round of the GLVC Tournament on May 7.
BEEP, BEEP! Metro State senior pitcher Christie Robinson garnered Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Year after posting an 18-1 record and 1.10 ERA in 20 starts and appearances against league foes this season.
In her last 11 starts, the native of Clinton, Wash., has recorded an 11-0 record and 0.11 ERA, allowing just one earned run in 66.0 innings pitched.
The No. 4 Roadrunners will host the RMAC Tournament after compiling a school-record 37-2 mark to claim the league regular season title. Metro State will play Nebraska-Kearney in the first round of the tournament on May 6.
MORE, MORE, MORE: Rollins College claimed its first outright Sunshine State Conference title in school history by capping off the regular season with a series sweep of Saint Leo to finish 23-1 in league play.
Junior first baseman Jessica Moreland batted .500 with three runs scored and seven RBI while hitting a home run in each of the three victories. The native of Orange Park, Fla., was named SSC Player of the Week for her efforts as she raised her season batting average to .351.
