BATON ROUGE, La. - Texas A&M junior Rhi Kliesing went 2-for-3 and scored both runs as the Aggies bounced back with a 2-0 shutout of McNeese State on Saturday afternoon in the Baton Rouge Regional at Tiger Park.

The 18th-ranked Aggies (42-15) advance to play No. 12 seed and host LSU at 6 p.m. this evening. The Cowgirls (38-26) dropped their second game of the regional and were eliminated from the NCAA Tournament.

Freshman pitcher Melissa Dumezich (17-3) struck out six and picked up the win in the circle by allowing just three hits and two walks for her fifth shutout of the season.

The Aggies struck first in the top of the second after Kliesing led off the inning with an infield single. She was sacrificed to second by junior Kelsey Spittler and advanced to third on a base hit by senior Alex Reynolds. Dumezich then put the ball in play and McNeese State's third baseman overthrew first base and allowed Kliesing to score from third for a 1-0 A&M lead.

The Cowgirls tallied their second hit in the bottom of the third and loaded the bases with one down, but Dumezich forced a shallow fly out to center and ended the inning with a backwards K.

Texas A&M turned the tables in the fourth and loaded the bases with three consecutive singles by Kliesing, Spittler and Reynolds. Dumezich then plated a sliding Kliesing from third with a one-out sacrifice fly to center to give the Aggies a 2-0 advantage.

From Whiting, Ind., Dumezich retired 13 of the last 14 batters to secure the Aggies' first win of the weekend.

Kayla Shepherd (10-9) gave up two runs (one earned), seven hits and struck out three in the loss.

Tallying two hits each for A&M were Spittler (2-for-2) and Reynolds (2-for-3). Freshman Lauren Schwirtlich also recorded a single.
