WACO, Texas – All-America righthander Blaire Luna tossed her NCAA-best 14th complete-game shutout in front of a Getterman Stadium-record crowd of 1,484 to help the Longhorns stay unbeaten in the Big 12 and upend No. 17 Baylor, 3-0. The Horns improved to 43-4 and 12-0 in Big 12 play, while the Bears dropped to 36-11 overall and 7-6 in league action.

Luna (25-2) scattered three hits, walked three and fanned 10 in seven innings to notch her 55th career victory. Baylor starter Whitney Canion (20-8) took the loss after surrendering three runs on six hits, four walks and four strikeouts in 4.1 innings.

Catcher Amy Hooks led the Horns’ offense in the win, going 2-for-4 with two runs scored, one RBI and her team-best 12th home run of the season. First baseman Kim Bruins added two hits and an RBI in the winning effort.

Baylor kept the game scoreless in the third on a nice defensive play, as Texas had runners at second and third with one out and Taylor Thom hit a groundout to Dani Leal at short. However, Thom got caught off third and was eventually run down for the double play.

But Texas broke through in the fourth to claim a 2-0 edge. Hooks led off the inning with a single to right field and leftfielder Courtney Craig drew a two-out walk to put two on. Bruins quickly added an RBI single through the middle that scored Hooks and broke the scoreless tie. Second baseman Raygan Feight followed with a walk that loaded the bases and rightfielder Taylor Hoagland drew a bases-loaded walk to bring Craig home and put UT ahead, 2-0.

With two outs in the fourth, Clare Hosack drew a walk, and was pinch run for by Makenzie Robertson. Holly Holl roped a single to second to put runners at first and second, but a grounder to short from K.J. Freeland found Robertson interfering with the play, forcing her out to end the inning.

The Longhorns added to the margin in the fifth with Hooks' solo homer, widening the lead to three.

“We had our chances early, but give Texas a lot of credit because they are a great team,” Baylor head coach Glenn Moore said. “You have to take advantage of opportunities when you get them, and mentally we just made some uncharacteristic mistakes tonight.”
