SALEM, Va. – Midwestern State used a late-game push in the top of the seventh inning and Brittney Tanner tossed a complete-game shutout in the 1-0 victory against Minnesota State Saturday evening.

It was a pitcher’s contest through the first six frames. Neither offense could get going as each squad’s pitchers excelled, keeping virtually every batter off the base paths.

In the top of the seventh, the Mustangs were able to break the deadlock. Mallory Mooney singled to second with one down. A pinch runner came in for her but was erased when Kim Jerrick reached on a fielder’s choice.

Brittney Tanner singled to short, putting runners on first and second. Reynolds laced a blooper to right center, plating Jerrick from second and making the score 1-0.

For the game, Tanner allowed just two hits and struck out eight for her 31st win. Courtney McKelvogue went the distance but took the loss. She gave up one run on five hits with two strikeouts.

MSU improved to 54-13 with the victory; Minnesota State concluded its season at 54-16.
