Division III East Regional: Ursinus 3, Staten Island 2

May 13, 2005

Junior left fielder Ellie Knise (Phoenixville, PA/Phoenixville) scored the game-winning run on a catcher's error as fourth-seeded Ursinus rallied for the victory by scoring twice in the bottom of the seventh. Freshman second baseman Jessica Cherry (Bristol, PA/Conwell Egan), who scored twice, tied the game at 2-2 when she came across on a wild pitch with the bases loaded and one out. CSI induced a ground ball for the second out, but the throw home from the first baseman was mishandled and enabled the Bears to advance.

The Dolphins went ahead 2-1 in the top of the seventh when freshman left fielder Nicole Pignatelli (Staten Island, NY/Tottenville) poked an RBI single to center. A run-scoring single by senior catcher Theresa Tepedino (Staten Island, NY/St. Joseph by the Sea) opened the scoring in the fourth off Ursinus senior righty Erin Skinner (Sewell, NJ/Burlington City), who retired the first 10 batters she faced.

Skinner improved to 12-4 after striking out 11 without a walk. She allowed six hits and one earned run. CSI sophomore Christina D'Arpa (Staten Island, NY/Moore Catholic), who also went 2-for-3, fell to 12-2 after allowing six hits and two earned runs while walking two and fanning six.
