Salisbury, MD - No.2-ranked Salisbury University picked up two runs in the second, fourth, and fifth innings Saturday to defeat Roanoke College, 6-1, in the NCAA Division III Atlantic Region Softball Championship Tournament. Senior Kareem Falcon (Severn/MD/Chesapeake) and junior Erin Ruest (Waldorf, MD/McDonough) led SUs offensive attack, combing for four hits and five RBI.

The Sea Gulls (39-4) will advance to the Regional Final on Sunday to face No.19-ranked Moravian College (37-7), which won twice on Saturday. The Greyhounds defeated Ferrum College, 6-3, and Roanoke College, 5-0, to work their way back through the losers bracket. Moravian fell to Roanoke, 2-1, in the opening round. The Greyhounds must defeat Salisbury twice to prevent the Sea Gulls from reaching their fourth straight World Series. The finals begin at 12-noon.

After a one-out hit by sophomore Nichole Fuqua (Rockville, MD/Richard Montgomery), Falcon (2-for-3, 3 RBI) blasted Roanokes Lyndsi Craigs (14-3) 1-0 pitch over the left-center field fence for her seventh HR of the year. The Gulls added two more in the fourth on a single by Falcon, which plated pinch runners junior Megan Ellzy (Bel Air, MD/C. Milton Wright) and senior Eryn Mathews (Baltimore, MD/Eastern Tech).

Roanoke scored its only run in fourth on a home run by senior Kim Rowe (1-for-3), but the Gulls answered right back in the top of the fifth, as Ruest (2-for-4) singled up the middle to score senior Kim Rementer (Denton, MD/North Caroline) and junior Kristy Shaffer (Manchester, MD/North Carrol).

Junior Lacey Lister (Denton, MD/North Caroline) recorded her 28th win of the year, pitching five and one-third, while allowing just two hits and striking out four. Freshman Kirsten Wells (11-2) threw the final inning and two-thirds, retiring five of the six batters she faced.
