Freshman Malissa Magee threw a no hitter and the Rattlers exploded for 10 runs in the fourth inning as St. Marys beat the Angelo State Rambelles 12-0 in the championship game of the NCAA Division II South Central Regional Softball Championship Tournament at St. Marys University in San Antonio.

The Rattlers needed only five innings to win the regional championship, their third in four years. St. Marys now moves on to the NCAA Division II National Championship Tournament May 19-23 in Salem, Va.

Magee dominated in the circle. She gave up only one run in the tournament, and allowed only one Angelo State runner to reach base. She had five strikeouts.

On the offensive side, the Rattlers got the scoring started in the third inning when senior Kirstin Simmons hit a two-run homerun to give St. Marys a 2-0 lead.

In the fourth, The Rattlers took advantage of Angelo State errors to extend the lead, then the bats came alive. Liz Beyer and Terry Cox launched homeruns to make the score 12-0. Cox had a single and a homer in the inning.

Simmons, Roni Garcia and Cox each had two hits as the Rattlers pounded out 13 total.

Magee and Beyer were named co-MVPs of the tournament.
