Smiths Gem Leads Bloomsburg to Victory Over Concordia-St. Paul

SALEM, VA Bloomsburgs Amanda Smith tossed a complete game, four-hit shut out to lead the Huskies to a 3-0 victory over Concordia-St. Paul in the opening game of the NCAA Division II National Softball Championship.

Bloomsburg (45-8) advances to the winners bracket to face the winner of San Francisco State and Lynn Friday at 5:00 p.m. Concordia (44-14) will take on the loser of that game at 12:00 p.m. Friday.

The Huskies got all the runs they would need in the home-half of the third inning when Jill Homyak and Amanda Breon had back-to-back singles and Dee Wolfe hit her fourth home run of the year with two outs.

Smith improved her record to 18-3 with the win after striking out seven and walking just two. Concordia starter Kristen Schmidt (27-7) went the distance for the Golden Bears, surrendering five hits and striking out five.
