Northern Kentucky 2, Le Moyne 1

SALEM, VA Angie Lindemans bases loaded squeeze bunt scored Rachele Vogelpohl to give Northern Kentucky a 2-1 victory over Le Moyne in the both teams opening game of the 2005 NCAA Division II National Softball Championship. NKUs Krystal Lewallen got the win allowing just one run on five hits while striking out seven and walking two to improve to 31-0 on the season. Dolphin starter Sarah Reed took the loss to drop to 17-5. Reed surrendered eight hits and two runs.

Le Moyne struck for the first run of the game in the third inning. Emma Murphy reached on an error and moved to second on sacrifice bunt by Lindsay Spaziani. Murphy then moved to third on a single by Kristen DesLauriers and then scored when DesLauriers got caught in a run down.

Northern Kentucky knotted the game up at 1-1 in its half of the third when Rachele Vogelpohl led the inning off with a home run.

In the Norse seventh, Vogelpohl singled with one out, moved to third after back-to-back singles by Ricki Rothbauer and Stephanie Leimbach, and scored on the bunt by Lindeman.

NKU advances to take on the winner of St. Marys (TX) and Kennesaw State Friday at 7:30 . Le Moyne drops to the losers bracket and will play at 2:30 p.m. against the loser of that game.
