The nationally fifth-ranked Muskingum College softball team dropped a tough 2-1 eight inning contest against third-ranked Chapman University at the NCAA Division III World Series at the Walnut Creek Softball complex in Raleigh, North Carolina, on Friday.

Chapman grabbed an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first on an RBI single by Jill Jeranko. Muskingum tied the game in the top of the second on an RBI double by sophomore All-American Kim Tackett. The Muskies threatened again in the third by loading the bases with one out but was unable to score. The threat ended when sophomore Ashley Carpenter, who pinch ran for Iammarino, was called out after being hit in the leg by a line drive by sophomore Brittany Hess. Chapman finally pushed the winning run across the plate in the bottom of the eighth on an RBI single by Kim Sanders. Muskie junior All-American pitcher Erica Hoyt fired a complete game eight-hitter with five strikeouts to fall to 36-4.

For the game, Muskingum stranded 10 runners and had two extra base hits.
