Oklahoma St. 6, Princeton 1

May 20, 2005

TUCSON, Ariz.--Jessica Hoppock struck out 10 and scattered seven hits to help lead No. 2 seeded Oklahoma State to a 6-1 victory over three seed Princeton in both teams first game in NCAA Region 3 play Friday at Hillenbrand Stadium.

OSU (34-22) scored four runs in the bottom of the first to take a sizeable early lead, with a run-scoring single by Courtney Totte, a two-run double by Dominique Van Nortwick and an RBI single by Megan Carey. The first run was unearned, with Princeton pitcher Erin Snyder's error putting the first runner aboard. Two wild pitches hurt the Tigers, too.

Princeton (35-19)came right back and loaded the bases in the top of the second, and cut the lead when OSU pitcher hit Cristina Cobb-Adams with a pitch. But she struck out Lauren Bierman for the second time to end the threat and strand three.

The Tigers missed a scoring opportunity in the fifth. WIth one out, Cobb-Adams dropped a double down the right field line and Bierman hit one into the gap in left that might have scored Cobb-Adams, but she held until the ball fell and moved to third. Melissa Finley lofted a fly ball to left, and leftfielder Carey gunned down Cobb-Adams at the plate for a double play.

Carey followed her fine defensive play with a big hit in the bottom of the inning, following a Tara Jeffery single with a home run over the left field fence for the 6-1 score.

OSU meets the Arizona-Lehigh winner at 1:30 p.m. (MST/PDT) Saturday, with Princeton to meet the game 2 loser at 4 p.m.
