Columbia, Mo. - Senior Elizabeth Bendig hit her first homerun of the season to help the fourth-ranked Stanford softball team to a 9-0 shutout of Robert Morris this evening in NCAA Regional action in Columbia, Mo. The Cardinal improve to 41-14 overall, while the Colonials drop to 29-21-1.

Stanford jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first. Catalina Morris led things off with an infield single. Lauren Lappin followed with a bunt single. Michelle Smith singled up the middle to score Morris and Lappin.

In the bottom of the second, Katherine Hoffman got things started with a bunt single. Morris singled to center and moved up on the throw. Hoffman advanced to third. A wild pitch brought Hoffman home.

With one out in the bottom of the third, Howe drew a walk. Meghan Sickler hit a bloop single to left as Howe went to second. A ground out by Tricia Aggabao moved the runners to second and third. A fielder's choice by Hoffman scored Howe and put the Cardinal up 4-0.

Stanford picked up another run in the bottom of the fourth when a sacrifice fly by Rinehart brought home Catalina Morris.

Meghan Sickler reached base on an error by the third baseman to start off the bottom of the fifth inning. Shoney Hixson entered the game as a pinch hitter and moved to second on a ground out by Lindsay Key. Hoffman singled to put runners on first and second. An error by the first baseman allowed Hixson to score and Catalina Morris to reach first. A single by Lappin scored Hoffman.

Freshman hurler Becky McCullough (19-6) picked up the win in the circle for the Cardinal, scattering two hits over four scoreless innings with three strikeouts. Danielle Cohen (14-6) took the loss for the Colonials, allowing three runs on five hits in two innings of work.

Rinehart led off the sixth inning with an infield single. Elizabeth Bendig then hit her first homerun of the season - a two run shot to left - to end the game and give Stanford a 9-0 victory.

Catalina Morris went 3-for-4 with two runs scored while Lauren Lappin had a 2-for-3 day with a run scored and an RBI. Katherine Hoffman also picked up two hits with two runs scored and an RBI.

Stanford is back in action tomorrow when they take on Southern Illinois at 12 p.m. SIU defeated Missouri, 3-0, in the early game. Robert Morris will face the Tigers in the 3:30 p.m. game.
