COLLEGE STATION, Texas- The No. 5 Texas A&M softball team (47-8) won the Region 5 Championship and advanced to next weekends Super Regional action with a 9-2 victory over Penn St. (36-23) in front of 773 fans in the College Station Regional Final.

What a great feeling this is, commented A&M head coach Jo Evans. Our team did a great job coming back from an early deficit and executing our game plan. Megan (Gibson) continues to get better and better each game and our offense remained focused and got the job done.

After moving into the leadoff spot for the first time all season, third baseman Jamie Hinshaw (Missouri City, Texas) was named the State Farm Player of the Game with a 2-for-4 two-RBI, two-run effort.

In the circle, Megan Gibson (Spring, Texas) improved to 13-5 and earned her third win of the regional with a complete game two-run outing that saw her strikeout seven Nittany Lions.

Penn State scored one in each of the first two innings on five hits, before the Aggies got on the board in the third when Jana James (Mesquite, Texas) ripped a double off the left field wall scoring Adrian Gregory (Livingston, Texas) from first after she struck out but reached on a wild pitch. After James moved to third on an infield single by Gibson, she promptly brought the Aggies even on a perfectly executed double steal that saw her reach in behind the tag for the Aggies second run. After Lindsay Park (Arcadia, Calif.) drew a full-count walk, Gibson then gave the Aggies their first lead of the day when she scored from second on a single to left by Rocky Spencer (Katy, Texas). With two outs and the bases loaded, Jamie Hinshaw (Missouri City, Texas) made it 5-0 with a single up the middle scoring Spencer and fellow-freshman Jami Lobpries (Wharton, Texas) and moving Joy Davis (Austin, Texas) to third. Gregory, batting in the two hole for the first time all season, quickly made it 7-2 with an 0-2 single up the middle plating Davis and Hinshaw.

In the sixth, Gibson made it 8-2 Aggies with a double to left scoring James after she doubled to right center. Designated player Laura Durham (Pearland, Texas) then put the Aggies up 9-2 with a single up the middle scoring Gibson from third after she moved to second on a Spencer single to right.

With the win, the Aggies extended their home win streak to 21 games.

Texas A&M, the No. 5 national seed and the Big 12 Regular Season champions, advanced to the NCAA Super Regional next weekend against No. 12 seed Alabama at the Aggie Softball Complex in Friday and Saturday action.
