Carson-Newman Signs Two For 2010

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. - The Carson-Newman softball team has added two players for the 2010 season, head coach Vickee Hollifield announced today.
Pitcher Jennifer Long (Chattanooga, Tenn.) and infielder Ashley Tharp (Morristown, Tenn.) have both signed with the Lady Eagles.
Long, a senior at Chattanooga Christian High School, is a two-time Chattanooga Best of Preps Most Valuable Player and four-time All-District selection, including as an eighth grader in 2005. She was also an All-District performer in volleyball as a senior.
Tharp player both third base and first base during her high school career, leading Morristown East High School to a sub-state appearance, a regional championship, and two district titles. She is a three-sport athlete, who has also played basketball and volleyball.
As a junior, Tharp took All-District and All-Northeast Tennessee honors.
The Carson-Newman lady Eagles finished the 2008 season 49-8, winning the South Atlantic Conference regular season and SAC Tournament titles. C-N advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the fourth consecutive year.
