The Luther College softball team stayed alive at the NCAA III Championship finals, defeating Ithaca College 4-0 this afternoon in Eau Claire, Wis. The University of Eau-Claire is hosting the championship finals at Gelein Field at Carson Park, May 21-25.

Erin Crist produced what proved to be the game winning hit, a two-run double to center field that scored Tiffany Kruse and Paige Comentino, in the bottom of the second inning. Crist finished the day 2-for-3 with a run scored.

The Norse added two insurance runs in the sixth. Following back-to-back singles by Kelsey Kittleson and Crist, Mallory Broderick scored on a throwing error and Kayla Denner drove Crist in with a single up the middle. Broderick was pinch running for Kittleson.

The pitching duo of Kelsey Determan and All-American Kim Lambert (21-4), held Ithaca to one hit. Determan walked three and struck out six in five innings of work, while Lambert walked one and struck out one in the final two frames. Determan was credited with the victory and is now 20-2 for the year. This is the first time in school history Luther has had two pitchers reach the 20-win mark in the same season.

Luther will return to action tomorrow at 2:30 p.m. and will face the loser of the semifinal game between Christopher Newport and East Texas Baptist. If the Norse win this game, they will play again at 7:30 p.m.

Fans can catch all the action on 1240 AM KWLC via regular air waves or by audio stream.
